TRI NZ JUNIOR SERIES

TriNZ is pleased to announce an extended Junior Series race calendar that provides more opportunities to race deeper fields across the season. We have moved to a North/South model this year to remove the necessity for athletes to travel, whilst holding the Grand Final races where we hope the see the largest fields across the year to truly ‘test the metal’ of all athletes.

POINTS SYSTEM

All SERIES Races: 3000 points per event!

GRAND FINAL races: 4000 points per event!

Points for all finishers in each age-group will diminish based on the time deficit to first place at a rate of 2 points per 1 second deficit to the first place finish time. There is no points minimum, or “floor”.

For example, at an event where first place earns 3,000 points, if an athlete finishes 1 minute (or 60 seconds) behind the first-place finish time, then he/she will earn 2,880 points. (3000 points minus the 60 second deficit = 2880 points.)

Points will accumulate throughout the season. You may count a total of THREE races within your total – how you accumulate your score is up to each individual. They can be a mix of South/North Island races as you deem necessary

The male and female junior athlete in each age category with the most points at the end of the TriNZ Junior Series will be crowned Junior Series Champions at their respective Grand Final events.

Please be aware that the date your age is calculated is different between Schools (age as of 1/1/26) and TriNZ (World Triathlon) racing…..the U20/U17 category will have you racing in the correct bracket throughout the entire year for the 2026 season.

For example: Millie’s birthday is 12/6/2010. That will make her 16 as of 31/12/26 meaning she will race in the U17 category for ALL TriNZ races, and in the U16 race for School Champs. This ensures that Millies races against all of her peers throughout the 2026.

John’s birthday is 12/6/2009 – making him 16 on 1/1/26 and 17 on 31/12/26. John would race in the U19 at schools, U20 TriNZ.

AGE CATEGORIES

Junior = U20 (so you must be 17-19 on 31/12/26)

Youth = U17 (so you must be 14-16 on 31/12/26)
